Xiaomi already released MIUI 7 official update to its smartphones & tablets and we already shared a tutorial on how to update Xiaomi devices to MIUI 7 Global Stable ROM. As the MIUI 7 update was based on Android Lollipop and KitKat many Mi fans got disappointed as they were expecting the all-new Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
But for all Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi 3 users here is something to cheer about. Now they can experience the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with the help of Android 6.0 AOSP custom ROM. All the credits go to the developer Ivan which has made great efforts to develop. As the ROM is still in the beta stage, you might encounter minor bugs and issues. But many of the Xiaomi Mi 3 and Mi 4 users already installed the Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM on their respective devices and have a pretty positive response from them. So, in order to install the ROM on your Mi 4/3 device, you need to follow the below quick steps.
Before we get started with the tutorial, do backup all the important data on your device like contacts, call logs, messages, and other files. Also, remember that the below tutorial is only for Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi 3 devices but not for any other Xiaomi smartphones.
How to Update Xiaomi Mi 4, Mi 3 to Android 6.0 Marshmallow using AOSP ROM:
Step 1: Firstly you need to install TWRP recovery on your device. To do so, download TWRP Recovery from the given link directly to your device and install the zip using the Updater app.
Step 2: Download and save the Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM zip file for Mi 4 and Mi 3. No need to extract the folder on your desktop.
Step 3: Now you need to download Google Apps package zip file and save on your desktop.
Step 4: Take a standard USB cable and connect your device with PC. Transfer the above download ROM file and Google Apps zip file to the internal storage of your device.
Step 5: Disconnect the device from PC and launch the Updater app on your handset. Now you need to reboot the device into TWRP recovery mode. To do so select the menu option from the updater app and there choose an option called “Reboot to Recovery mode”.
Step 6: Once you enter into recovery mode, select ‘Wipe’ > Advanced > select Wipe data & cache and confirm.
Step 7: Next go back to recovery main menu and select ‘Install’. Here you need to choose the Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM zip file and confirm to start the flashing process.
Step 8: Once completed, repeat the same process for the Google Apps package.
Step 9: Now go back and select ‘reboot system now’ to reboot your device into normal mode.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM on your Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi 3 Android smartphones.
