Xiaomi celebrated its 8th Anniversary with the launch of Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and Mi 8 SE smartphones. Not only this, Xiaomi also announced its next version of its mobile user interface, the MIUI 10 at the same launch event. It’s a long anticipated OS, as Xiaomi already promised to bring the update to various Xiaomi Mi & Redmi devices – not limited to latest handsets.
The MIUI 10 is one of the major design changes to Xiaomi’s UI in recent times. The new UI is bring designed for smartphones featuring high-screen to body ratio and full-screen bezel-less displays. This UI tweak started with the MIUI 9.5 update itself, where the software buttons of the device replaced by navigation gestures.
A new Driving Mode has been introduced to MIUI 10 where the users can pass voice commands to control smartphone in a car. This will avoid distraction while driving and users can easily navigate using maps, reply to messages, and take calls without touching the device. The new OS also brings a series of easy-to-use full-screen hand gestures which can be used as an alternative to current virtual on-screen buttons.
There is something to cherish about for older Xiaomi smartphones with single-lens camera as company brings AI bokeh effects which lets you take portrait shots without the presence of dual rear camera. The camera app relies entirely on the AI software to analyze the depth of the scene and the subject without needing a second sensor. The new OS also brings new ringtones which can be set as notifications sounds, morning alarms, and ringtones.
As far as performance is concerned, Xiaomi says that MIUI 10 is utilizing AI in order to study the way you use your phone, and based on that, anticipate your next move, which lets it prepare certain apps to be opened, and that way reduce load times quite a bit, almost completely. On top of that, the MIUI 10 also includes smart home integration where you can control Mi Ecosystem devices directly through your MIUI smartphone.
