Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus are the latest affordable smartphones launched by the Chinese manufacturer at an event in China last week. Both the devices feature 18:9 display with narrow bezels and runs on latest MIUI 9 out-of-the-box. Apart from this, the smartphones also comes with a soft-toned selfie light which helps you capture better selfies even in low light condition. Till now, this selfie light was missing on most of the Xiaomi Mi & Redmi smartphones.
Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus Release Date & Price in India
As of now, Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are launched exclusively for Chinese market. Xiaomi Redmi 5 is priced at CNY 799 (approx. Rs. 7,800) for the 2GB + 16GB variant while the 3GB + 32GB variant is priced at CNY 899 (approx. Rs. 8,800). On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus carries a price tag of CNY 999 (approx. Rs. 9,800) for 3GB + 32GB variant and the 4GB + 64GB variant will be sold at CNY 1,299 (approx. Rs. 12,700). With this competitive price tag, these are currently the cheapest 18:9 resolution devices.
Considering the launch date in India, Xiaomi didn’t revealed the exact timeframe. But one can expect these devices landing on Indian soils by December-end with similar prices. It comes in Black, Gold, Pink, and Blue color options.
Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus – Specifications, Features
On the display front, the Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels) 18:9 display with a 282ppi pixel density and a 72 percent NTSC colour gamut. On the other side, the Redmi 5 Plus features a 5.99-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) 18:9 display with a 403ppi pixel density and an 84 percent NTSC colour gamut. The smaller one is powered by a 1.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 450 SoC while the larger variant includes 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, features hybrid dual SIM support and equips with similar cameras. There is a 12MP rear camera with a 1.25-micron pixel sensor, an f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and flash. There is also a 5MP front facing camera with a soft-light selfie flash module. Like its previous Redmi series models, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus comes with a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel for better security purposes.
As for storage, the Redmi 5 comes with 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB internal storage while the Redmi 5 Plus includes 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage. Both the smartphones has microSD card slot for further memory expansion. The Redmi 5 series devices offers connectivity options like 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS, and Micro-USB.
