Earlier this year, Xiaomi made Redmi as an independent smartphone brand in China and launch its first Redmi Note 7 series in India. Moreover, the company has achieved a milestone of selling 10 million or more Redmi Note 7 series devices all around the world. This milestone has been reached in just 129 days of time. Now, the Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi goes even big with the launch of Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro smartphones. The Redmi K20 is an affordable variant while the Redmi k20 Pro is a flagship-level smartphone.
Both the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro comes with features like AMOLED screen, in-display fingerprint sensor, and hardware DC Dimming support, all in a 3D four-curved large arc body. Initially, the devices are launched exclusively for the Chinese market. There are no official reports when these devices will be rolled out to other global markets. However, Xiaomi’s India Vice President, Manu Kumar Jain already revealed that the Redmi K20 (and possibly Redmi K20 Pro) is arriving soon to India.
Redmi K20 – Specifications
The Redmi K20 comes with the same 6.39-inch Full HD+ 19.5:9 aspect ratio AMOLED HDR display to that of Redmi K20 Pro. There is also Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the top. The device runs on Xiaomi’s custom skin MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie OS.
The full-screen design is enabled thanks to a 20MP pop-up camera, with Redmi claiming it pops up in 0.8 seconds. In a nice touch, Redmi adds that you can also choose from one of six pop-up sounds. It also features an in-display fingerprint sensor for better security.
On the hardware front, the Redmi K20 comes with Snapdragon 730 SoC coupled with Adreno 618 GPU and 6GB of RAM. It comes in 64 GB and 128 GB storage variants with an option to expand further via microSD.
On the camera optics, the K20 offers triple rear cameras i.e. a 48MP main sensor with f/1.75 aperture, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a 13MP ultra-wide sensor. For selfies and video calling purposes, there is a 20MP sensor which is being allocated in a pop-up mechanism.
The device measures 156.7 x 74.3 x 8.8mm, weighs 191g, and packs with a 4000mAh battery with 18W fast charging. Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C adds to the connectivity department.
Price and Availability:
The Redmi K20 comes in Carbon Black, Flame Red and Glacier Blue colors, is priced at 1999 yuan (US$ 289 / Rs. 20,160 approx.) for the 6GB RAM with 64GB storage version and the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version costs 2099 yuan(US$ 203 / Rs. 21,165 approx.). It is now available for order and goes on sale in China starting from June 6th.
