Xiaomi has scheduled an event in India today where it is expected to launch its latest selfie-focused smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi Y2. The launch event takes place in New Delhi at 3PM IST. Alongside, the Chinese smartphone giant will also announce MIUI 10 Global ROM with a list of Xiaomi phones eligible for the update and timeframe for the OTA rollout. With these announcements happening together, it is highly possible that Redmi Y2 could be the first Xiaomi phone to ship with MIUI 10 Global ROM. Xiaomi Redmi Y2 launch is set to kick off at 3:00PM today, and can be live stream online on YouTube. The company will be live streaming the entire event on its official YouTube page, i.e. Xiaomi India. It also put a dedicated page ‘event.mi.com/in/realyousmartphone’ whereby users can stream the smartphone launch event live.
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Specifications and Features
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is the rebranded version of Redmi S2 which the company launched in China earlier this year. It is the second smartphone to launch in the ‘Redmi Y’ series, earlier the company announced Redmi Y1 which was also a selfie-centric smartphone. According to the reports, the Redmi Y2 is expected to price at Rs. 9,999 for the base variant (3GB RAM with 32GB storage), and Rs. 11,999 for the high-end variant (4GB RAM with 64GB storage). The device will be Amazon exclusive.
In terms of specifications, the Redmi Y2 is expected to flaunt a 5.99inch HD+ display, is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and has a dual SIM support. It runs on Android-based MIUI 9 OS out of the box, and sports a dual rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. Further, it has a 16-megapixel sensor on the front with supports features such as AI Portrait Mode, AI Smart Beauty, Front HDR, and Face Unlock. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack and a micro-USB port. It also includes a 3080mAh battery which provides juice to the device.
