Xiaomi on Wednesday launched its latest flagship smartphone for 2017, the Xiaomi Mi 6 at an event in Beijing. It is one of those early device alongside the Galaxy S8 to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. With its powerful hardware, the Mi 6 will take on likes of Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone 7, and LG G6. Alongside the Mi 6, Xiaomi could also launch Mi 6 Plus and Mi Max 2 at the same event which is being live stream on Xiaomi’s website.
Xiaomi Mi 6 Specifications
As Xiaomi Mi 6 is a big upgrade to that of Mi 5, you can see a lot of improvements both in design and hardware field. In terms of screen size, it retains the similar 5.15-inch Full HD display to that of its predecessor. One of the big highlights of the Mi 6 is the latest Snapdragon 835 processor integration coupled with 6GB LPDDR4X RAM. It is also the world’s first device to equip with 10nm chipset along with 64-bit architecture and also has the Adreno 540 GPU for graphics purposes.
The Mi latest flagship sports a 12-megapixels dual rear cameras with dual-tone LED flash, 4-axis OIS, 4K video recording and a 8-megapixesl front camera for selfie and video calling purposes. It also has portrait mode, which lets you capture pictures with blue background similar to that of iPhone 7 Plus. It also has reading mode that cancels blue light and 1-nit ultra dark night display for reading at night. As rumoured, it has infrared sensor on the top and features an under-glass fingerprint scanner on the front which can also be used for Alipay and WeChat payments purposes.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 has 3350mAH battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 technology support for Quick Charging feature.
It has a splash resistant design with all openings properly sealed and protected. The device lacks 3.5mm audio jack which makes the users to rely on the USB Type-C port for audio. It has dual SIM (nano + nano) support and runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 8 on top. On the connectivity front, it includes 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and GPS/GLONASS/Beidou.
Price and Availability
The Xiaomi Mi 6 comes in Blue, Black and White colors and also comes in Silver Edition with reflective mirror finish Stainless steel frame. It is priced at 2499 Yuan (US$ 360 / Rs. 23,420 approx.) for the 6GB RAM with 64GB internal storage variant, 2899 Yuan (US$ 421 / Rs. 27,190 approx.) for the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage variant. There is also a 6GB + 128GB storage variant with ceramic body and 18K gold finish which costs 2999 Yuan (US$ 435 / Rs. 28,100). It will go on sale in China starting from April 28th. There are no details available on global announcement of Xiaomi Mi 6.
