Before starting the update process, make sure to perform backup of important stuff like contacts, media, Apps data, SMS, etc. The below procedure is only for Xiaomi Redmi 1s, don’t try to flash the ROM on any other Xiaomi or Android device. Do maintain a battery life of 60%.

How to install Marshmallow custom ROM on Xiaomi Redmi 1s:
Step 1: Download TWRP recovery and flash the same from the Mi Updater application (launch updater app > tap on three dots at the top right > choose update package > confirm).
Step 2: Now you need to download the Marshmallow ROM and Gapps from the above link and transfer the same to the device SD card.
Step 3: Boot the device into TWRP recovery mode. To do so, go to updater app and select ‘Reboot to Recovery mode’.
Step 4: Now you need to select ‘backup’ to perform backup of the previous stable.
Step 5: Next from recovery main menu, select ‘Wipe’ > Advanced > select Wipe data and cache and confirm.
Step 6: Once done, from recovery main menu select “Install” and browse the ROM file which earlier you have copied to device external storage. Confirm to start the flashing process.
Step 7: You need to follow the same Step 6 to install GApps on your device.
Step 8: Go back and choose ‘reboot system now’ to boot the device into normal mode.
Step 9: Yip! Your device is now running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. Go to Settings > About phone and confirm the OS.
