Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime, the smartphone which earlier went on sale in Singapore for $179 is officially launched in India. It is the first “Made in India” Xiaomi phone. The company has tie up with Foxconn to manufacture Xiaomi phones in India. The manufacturing plant has been built in Sri City of Andhra Pradesh state.
Coming to handset, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime is the successor of Redmi 2 which was launched earlier this year. The Redmi 2 Prime features almost the similar specifications of Redmi 2 but brings 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage instead of 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
Display and Processor:
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime comes with a 4.7-inch IPS display with screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and has Dragontrail Glass protection. The display will be well enough for good gaming experiencing and streaming videos & movies. The Dragontrail Glass protects the screen from scratches and other minor damages.
Like all the other budget devices, the Redmi 2 Prime also powered with a 1.2GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 processor. The same processor is used in YU Yuphoria, which is Micromax budget Android phone.

Software and Cameras:
Like Redmi 2, this handset also runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top. It is expected to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware update in the future. To remind you, Xiaomi is also planning to announce MIUI 7 based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on August 13th in a special event being scheduled in China. So, we have to see whether Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime gets Android 5.1.1 Lollipop MIUI 7 update or not.
Coming to the cameras, it has an 8MP rear camera with LED Flash and HD video recording and also includes a 2MP front camera for taking quality Selfies and other video calls. The camera also features HDR mode, which helps to take high quality pictures.
Storage and Connectivity:
Like various entry level devices, it also comes with 16GB of onboard memory which has a microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB. As we said it has 2GB of RAM and when compared to 1GB in Redmi 2. The connectivity options adds 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi, USB, GPS, Bluetooth, and has dual SIM support. There is a 2200 mAh battery on the back to provide backup for an entire handset.
Available Colors:
As of now, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime is only available in White and Dark Grey colors options. Hope the company introduces more color variants in the coming days.

The smartphone has a price tag of Rs. 6,999 and can be purchased through Mi.com, Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal online stores.
