Xiaomi adds latest device to its entry-level ‘Redmi A’ series dubbed as Xiaomi Redmi 5A. It is the successor of last year’s Redmi 4A without much changes. The Redmi 5A runs on Xiaomi’s latest skin i.e. MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. The phone carries a similar price tag to its predecessor i.e. CNY 599 (approx. 5,900 / US$90). It comes in Platinum Silver, Champagne Gold, and Rose Gold colors and will go on sale in China starting from today through e-commerce websites, including Xiaomi’s official website.
As for its specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A features a 5-inch screen with 720p resolution and a basic Snapdragon 425 chipset. It has 2GB of RAM along with 16GB of inbuilt memory. It comes with hybrid SIM support, where the second slot can also be used for memory expansion up to 128GB.
The Redmi 5A comes with a unibody design with Metal-like matte finish, but ut doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor, similar to Redmi 4A. There is a 3000mAh battery which provides juice to the device.
Coming to camera department, there is a 13-megapixels shooter on the back with PDAF, LED Flash, f/2.2 aperture, and 1080p video recording. There is a 5-megapixels front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture.
The physical dimensions and connectivity options remain essentially the same.
