After the successful launch of Mi 6X last week, today Xiaomi has started sending invites for its next smartphone launch event in China. The event is scheduled on May 10th, where the company will launch its latest affordable smartphone dubbed as “Xiaomi Redmi S2”. The device was already in talks for last few weeks and finally the company will unveil it on coming Thursday.
The Xiaomi Redmi S2 already passed through TENAA certification a few days ago, so we’re much aware of the specifications. In fact, the device was also listed on official Mi Store in the Czech Republic, which reveals a 5.99-inch HD+ screen, 16MP front camera with flash, 16MP + 5MP dual rear cameras with LED flash, Snapdragon 625, Android Oreo with MIUI 9 and a 3080mAh battery.
The Redmi S2 launch teaser image on Weibo consists of a large ‘S’ drawn with red and blue paint. This could indicate that the smartphone would be launched in Red and Blue colour variants.
Redmi S2: Specifications, Features
According to leaks and rumors, the Redmi S2 comes with 5.99-inch (1440 x 720 pixels) HD+ 18:9 2.5D curved glass display. Under the hood, there will be a 2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 14n processor with 650MHz Adreno 506 GPU. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo based MIUI 9 out of the box.
On the storage front, the device comes in three variants – 16GB Storage with 2GB RAM, 32GB Storage with 3GB RAM and 64GB Storage with 4GB ROM. There is also memory card slot for further memory expansion up to 128GB. It features 12MP rear camera with LED Flash, Sony IMX486 / OmniVision OV12A10 sensor, PDAF, EIS, secondary 5MP camera with Samsung S5K5E8 sensor. It also includes a 16MP front camera with LED flash.
The Xiaomi Redmi S2 features hybrid dual SIM support and a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel. It packs with a 3080mAh battery, measures 160.73 x 77.26 x 8.1mm and weighs 8.1mm. The connectivity options includes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS.
Price & Availability
No details have been revealed regarding the price and availability of the Xiaomi Redmi S2 smartphone. We should know the price when it goes official next Thursday. Xiaomi could bring the device to Asian markets including India later this month or early next month.
