Xiaomi Redmi Y1, the company’s first smartphone in its selfie-focussed series officially launched in India. The new ‘Y series’ is mainly targeted at the youth customers looking for a best selfie smartphone at a budget pricing. With this launch, Xiaomi competes with Oppo and Vivo brands who have been attracting users with its selfie-focussed devices.
Xiaomi Redmi Yi is the re-branded Redmi Note 5A smartphone that was announced in China back in August this year. The biggest highlights of the device is its 16-megapixels front camera with a LED light giving you a best selfie pictures. The event was not only limited to Redmi Y1 as Manu Kumar Jain also revealed Redmi Y1 Lite and MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM. Just like Redmi 4A, the Redmi Y1 Lite is the budget variant of Redmi Y1. On the other hand, Xiaomi’s confirms the release of MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM starting from mid-November for compatible devices in India.

The dual-SIM Xiaomi Redmi Y1 flaunts a 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) 2.5D curved glass display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection on top. It is powered by Snapdragon 435 Mobile platform and runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 8 on top. It is also one of the Xiaomi device upgradable to company’s latest MIUI skin i.e. MIUI 9.
The Redmi Y1 sports a 13-megapixels rear camera with LED flash, f/2.2 aperture and PDAF, there is also a 16-megapixels front-facing camera with LED flash, OmniVision sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and 76.4-degree wide-angle lens. It also features a fingerprint scanner on the back, and comes with Infrared sensor to control your smart devices at home and office.
The device comes in two storage variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, expandable up to 128GB with microSD card. Unlike Redmi 4, there is no hybrid SIM support. So, users can enjoy 2 SIM’s and a microSD card at a time. The Redmi Y1 measures 153 x 76.2 x 7.7mm, weighs 153g and packs with a 3080mAh battery. The connectivity includes 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS / GLOASS.

Coming to the Redmi Y1 Lite, it features a 5.5-inch HD display, is powered by 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor, and has dual Nano SIM support. It has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage which can be further expandable up to 128GB using a microSD card. Other specs includes a 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and a 3080mAh battery support.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 with 3GB RAM with 32GB storage is priced at 8,999 while the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage has a price tag of Rs. 10,999. On the other hand, the Redmi Y1 Lite is priced at Rs. 6,999. Both the devices comes in Gold and Dark Gray colors and will be available exclusively on Amazon.in, Mi-com as well as Mi Home starting from November 8th.
