Xiaomi on Thursday launched its latest selfie-centric smartphone in India dubbed as Xiaomi Redmi Y2. It is the successor of last year’s Redmi Y1 and the rebranded version of Redmi S2 which was introduced in China last month. Xiaomi also announced the global availability of MIUI 10 at the same event, which is the company’s latest iteration of MIUI version. Xiaomi Redmi Y2 will be among the list of devices to get MIUI 10 update based on Android Oreo.
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 Specifications and Features
Xiaomi Redmi Y2 with 16MP AI front camera directly competes the Vivo V9 and the newly launched Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo. The on-stage comparison between these three devices shows how much better the new Xiaomi phone is compared to the other two devices. The front camera of Redmi Y2 also features a selfie LED light, Auto HDR, AI Portrait selfie, and a Beautify mode. On the back, there is a 12MP rear camera with LED flash accompanied with a secondary 5MP camera to capture depth information for AI portrait shots.
Considering the display, it features a 5.99-inch (1440 × 720 pixels) HD+ 18:9 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by an 2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 14nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 506 GPU. The Redmi Y2 has dual-SIM support (nano + nano) and a dedicated microSD card slot for further memory expansion up to 256GB.
The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo based MIUI 9 OS and comes in two storage variants – 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage. It also features Ai-based face Unlock and fingerprint scanner on the rear panel for better security purposes. It measures 160.73 × 77.26 × 8.1mm and weighs 170g. The connectivity options includes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS. The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is backed by a 3080mAh battery, which is relatively smaller for its display size and processor.
Price and Availability:
The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 comes in Elegant Gold, Rose Gold and Dark Grey colors, is priced at Rs. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage version and the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage version costs Rs. 12,999. The device will be available exclusively on Amazon.in, Mi.com and Mi Home stores starting from June 12 with several launch offers.
